World Travel Ticket

I would personally recommend a oyster card which is better and easier to use with the ability to top up the cash value of the card and is used on buses and the tube alike. Remember to touch in and out on the tube as the cost depends on the length of your journey. You will pay the higher cost if you fail to do this.

World Travel Ticket - Using Public Transport in London the Easy Way

I have always remembered what I was taught in the Services about planning ahead, and the repercussions of failing to research even the shortest of journeys regardless of where you are in the World.

With the internet at its peak in the World of technology and the ever increasing attitudes of businesses to have websites it has never been so easy to take a few minutes to plan ahead a short journey around a city or even a World travel ticket using airlines or ships to transport you to far away places, yet so many people take too many things for granted when using Public Transport, and often fail to plan ahead, or make alternative arrangements to facilitate their journey.

I have compiled some useful tips about traveling around London, in particular, using the Buses and Tube network. The first thing to consider is the following;
1. Authority to travel; A prepaid ticket or oyster card is by far the easiest and cheapest method in which to pay for your travel. Both are available at Newsagents and ticket booths of the Underground network.
Using oyster on the bus is simply a matter of placing the card on the reader as you enter the bus.

There is no need to touch out as with the Tube. Cash fares on the Tube and bus are considerably higher than using the prepaid method..so be warned..to travel 400m on a bus will cost you £2 (as at sept 07). Strangely, you can also travel the breadth of London for the same price, depending on the route of the bus. Cash paid tickets on buses are not transferable, so if you use a route 9 and a route 7, to complete your journey, and you are paying cash, this will cost you £4.

world travel ticketThere is a daily "capping" rate in London. So when you use the oyster card method you will pay a daily rate which currently remains at £3.50, regardless of the amount of use on buses or the Tube network. Always ensure, if you are using a prepaid card, that you have sufficient funds on the card to pay for your travel.

You can check the remaining amount on your card at any Tube station or on any bus you use.
If you fail to do this and your prepaid card has insufficient funds on it, you will have to pay a maximum cash fare, especially on the bus, the added problem with this is that if you are in zone one you need to purchase a ticket from a road side machine before boarding a bus.

2. Plan ahead; If you have use of the Internet then you can check your journey and routes. Both the Bus and Tube networks are covered by TfL and have "Live" updates on the Tube and Bus routes. This is a very good tool in planning ahead especially at weekends when engineering works often take place.

3. Always be aware of your surroundings; Whenever you are traveling on the Public transport system you should always be wary of pickpockets as they love to push and shove when people are boarding trains and buses as this gives them perfect cover for their menacing activities.

4. Where are you going; Always try to know what route and where you should be standing when waiting for a bus. All too often people forget that a bus has a "Up" and a "Down" route and very often they end up going in the wrong direction despite being on the correct route number. This in itself can save you time and a lot of grief. Take the trouble to ask people at the stop already.

5. Be prepared; You should always be prepared to walk or use alternative arrangements if the Tubes or Buses are on strike. Walking or cycling can sometimes be a very good way to get exercise as well as seeing parts of the City you have never seen before and lastly...keep a good sense of humour...because you need it in a City such as London.
